Callsign KK6JYT

KK6JYT is the callsign that was assigned to me when I received my Technician license on 02/24/2014. I was lucky enough to pass the exam the first time. HamTestOnline is a great website that I used to study for the exam. Currently, I am studying for the General license using HamTestOnline.

My very first transceiver was a Baofeng UV-5RA that I bought on Amazon. I would listen to different frequencies before I had my license. Listening had a lot to do with motivating me to study for the exam. I would hear different topics that I wanted to comment about and could not.

After passing the Technician Exam, I then got a Yaesu FT-7900 Dual Band Transceiver. I interfaced it to an IRLP board and was immediately addicted to VoIP internet linking.

KK6JYT Clubs & Nets

I do not belong to any radio clubs (yet). The internet taught me most of what I know about 2 meters and 70 centimeters analog communication. I also have to give a shout out to Ron (WB6IAG) for always coming back to me with the correct answer whenever I was stumped, or even worse – wrong.

So far there is only one net that I have found that I really like. The WIN System Tech Net is a great place to listen and get any/all of my questions answered. It is on every Friday night at 7:00 PM PST on IRLP Reflector 9100 or Allstar Link Node 2560.
